Archeological Sites
As a cradle to many ancient civilizations, Mexico now boasts over 29,000 archaeological sites and more than a hundred of them are made accessible to the public — offering travellers a glimpse into the country's storied past and interesting cultures. These remarkable ruins are remnants of the cities and ceremonial centres left behind by the societies and humans that once lived and thrived in the different parts of Mexico as proof of their existence. Many of these archeological landmarks are recognised by the UNESCO and here are a few of the famous sites you could check out:
-
Chichén Itzá, an extensive pre-Columbian complex with a central pyramid established by the Mayan people, and now an important archeological site that reflects Mexico’s glorious past.
-
Teotihuacan is a historic temple complex set in the present-day Mexico City and served an integral role as the ceremonial centre during the pre-Columbian period.
-
Tulum is the only major archaeological zone in Mexico on the seaside cliffs, overlooking the Caribbean turquoise waters and beyond.
