Seychelles Cruises

Seychelles

Seychelles is an Indian Ocean jewel, blessed with ivory shorelines and framed by the cobalt-blue ocean waters. The awe-inspiring paradise is often associated with the scenic coastal bliss, backed by imposing landscapes and pink-coloured boulders.  While it’s technically a 115-island archipelago, Seychelles is composed of three main islands: Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Each of these islands has a distinct charm and its own idiosyncrasy – all with a wide range of water activities and beach experiences to enjoy!

The best way to discover the known and hidden treasures of this archipelago is by island hopping. On a Seychelles cruise, travellers can reach the most far-flung destinations in the region. Mahé Island is home not just home to the capital but also to some of the archipelago’s most popular beaches, including Beau Vallon, the country’s longest beach, Anse Louise and Petite Anse. If you’re looking to relax and unwind, Praslin is the perfect getaway for you! This island has a more tranquil vibe than the vibrant Mahé Island, with a thriving wildlife, palm-fringed beaches and untamed nature trails. Sail to the car-free island of La Digue, the third-most inhabited island in Seychelles – known for its gorgeous beaches dotted with granite boulders.

Seychelles Cruise Highlights

Port Victoria

Considered one of the world’s smallest capital cities, Port Victoria is worth the wander! Find peace of mind in Botanical Gardens, home to about 500 species of endemic and indigenous plants, as well as giant tortoises and fruit bats. Visiting the clocktower is also an unmissable experience in Victoria – a striking landmark in the city centre that serves as the capital’s icon and symbol. Set in the buzzing heart of the quaint capital, you’ll find the colourful Sir Selwyn Clarke Market, perfect for shopping for tropical fruits, local goods and souvenirs.

Anse Source D’ Argent

This world-famous beach, surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery and pristine shores, is one of La Digue’s main attractions. Anse Source D’ Argent’s postcard-perfect sights attract many photographers around the world, and the extraordinary granite rock formations lining its coasts also add to its appeal! Catch the shallow emerald waters lap on the stunning white sands, backed by breathtaking boulders and towering palm trees. Conclude your visit by watching the stunning sunsets on this beach paradise!

Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve

Nature and wildlife enthusiasts will be delighted to explore Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve, a UNESCO-protected nature park on the island of Praslin. This nature reserve is the best place in Seychelles to spot the prehistoric coco de mer palm trees in their natural state – a rare species of palm tree exclusive to Seychelles producing the largest and heaviest seed in the plant kingdom. Taking a refreshing stroll, you can spot some endemic birds, such as the Seychelles bulbul, warbler and the endangered black parrot.

Things to Do in Seychelles

Discover the remote Moyenne Island

Dubbed the world’s smallest national park, Moyenne Island was a neglected wasteland transformed by Brendon Grimshaw into a paradisiacal eco-reserve! It’s the perfect destination for travellers seeking solitude and serenity away from the city’s hustle and bustle. It’s also a breeding ground for Aldabra giant tortoises, so it’s highly likely you’ll chance upon these fascinating creatures while exploring the tiny island.

Hike through Morne National Park

Morne National Park is a hot spot for adventure junkies and nature lovers, offering a rich diversity of flora and fauna. This sprawling bio reserve is known for its spectacular walks, including the Copolia Trail that leads to a high summit – opening on to uninterrupted views of Victoria, turquoise seas and the neighbouring islands, Praslin and La Digue! Hiking through the park, you’ll have the opportunity to spot several endemic species, such as the Seychelles Scops-owl, fluttering sunbirds and the world’s smallest frog!

Sample local Creole cuisine

The spice-infused Creole cuisine is one of the stellar offerings of Seychelles. Surrounded by waters, the archipelago is famed for its seafood, such as coconut crab/octopus curry, fresh grilled fish and barbecued prawns. Sampling the Creole street food is also not to be missed! Banana is a key ingredient in most Creole dishes and desserts, such as the Banana ladob – a classic dessert and street delicacy in which the banana is baked with coconut milk and sugar.

The official currency of Seychelles is the rupee, but tourists are allowed to pay in foreign currencies, such as US Dollars or Euros.
