Explore the Nile & Pyramids of Giza

Affectionately nicknamed the ‘Cradle of Civilization,’ Egypt is known for its brilliant ancient civilisations that birthed world-renowned pharaohs and pyramids, classical temples and monuments, and cultures and traditions that withstood the test of time! Standing out among the ancient wonders of Egypt is the Great Pyramid of Giza – one of the three pyramids of Giza and the sole surviving piece of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. Alexandria, Egypt’s former glorious capital, was also home to one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world – Lighthouse of Alexandria – before it was destroyed by a series of natural catastrophes.

Linking Northern Africa with the Middle East, Egypt has pretty much everything that every traveller is looking for. Whether you plan to explore the ancient wonders of Egypt, take a pilgrim tour of Sinai, or prefer journeying Egypt’s waters by cruising the Nile River or traversing the Suez Canal, a journey to Egypt is nothing short of awe-inspiring!

Egypt Cruise Highlights

Ancient Treasures

Egypt is a treasure trove of ancient wonders that serve as a testament to the great civilizations that once lived and thrived in the country. The pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx are among the most popular sites in Egypt, rightfully so, given their historical and architectural grandeur. Every step you take in the city of Luxor – once the capital and beating heart of ancient Egypt – is a journey to the past, where you can explore the Karnak temples complex, Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings. For a captivating cultural experience, visit the cliff-carved Abu Simbel – there are specific times a year when a rare occurrence happens here, where dappled sunlight beams through the sanctuary and creates a truly spell-binding sight to behold!

Wondrous Waterways

Commonly referred to as the ‘Gift of the Nile,’ both ancient and modern-day Egypt consider the Nile River as their lifeblood for providing water, fertile land, transportation and more throughout history. A Nile River cruise is one of the best ways to discover the ancient wonders of Egypt, traversing the scenic route between Luxor and Aswan, where you’ll sail past ancient temples and tombs like the dual-temple Kom Ombo and the UNESCO-listed necropolis Valley of the Kings. Another notable waterway in Egypt is the Suez Canal. This massive man-made sea-level canal stretches a whopping 120 miles, connecting the Red Sea – a premier destination for snorkelling and scuba diving – to the wide open blues of the Mediterranean Sea!

Beautiful Beaches

Water enthusiasts and sun-seekers must head to Sharm El Sheikh, buzzing with excellent opportunities for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. Nestled between the Sinai Peninsula and Red Sea, the picturesque resort town offers plenty of sheltered, white-sand beaches, turquoise waters and vibrant coral reefs. Ras Mohamed Nature Reserve is Egypt’s first national park and marine reserve – a premier dive site with a spectacular underwater world waiting to be explored! Seeking a more tranquil beach experience near Luxor? Safaga offers a small-town vibe and a much more lowkey alternative whilst still offering the best dive spots and water adventures!

Natural Wonders

Natural Wonders

Beyond Egypt’s old-world wonders and magnificent bodies of water, the country also boasts plenty of breath-taking natural landscapes that will surely leave you in awe! Follow Moses’ footsteps by hiking the summit of Mount Sinai – a prominent peak considered as an important pilgrimage site for the three monotheistic religions, plus witnessing the sunset at the mountain’s top is a truly magical moment! A day trip to the White Desert National Park is an unmissable excursion in Egypt, where you can discover otherworldly landscapes of blinding white chalk rock  formations.

Egypt is also surrounded with scenic bodies of water and stunning landscapes, from mighty rivers and man-made canals to divine mountains and sprawling deserts. It’s home to the Nile River, the world’s longest river, and the artificial Suez Canal that connects the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.

Things to Do in Egypt

Wander around the charming capital

Cairo is Egypt’s sprawling capital that oozes a perfect blend of modern vibe and old-world charm. History buffs can stroll the narrow streets of Historic Cairo, one of the oldest Islamic cities, full to the brim with mosques, madrassas and monuments. Visit the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, set inside Cairo Citadel that took 18 years to build, featuring colossal domes, towering minarets and ornate alabaster interiors. The capital also hosts some of the best bazaars in Egypt like the medieval market of Khan Al Khalili, with everything from high-end jewelry and antique items to handmade crafts and local products – perfect for those who love shopping and bargaining!

Step back in time in Aswan

Known for its dazzling Nile River scenery, Aswan is a serene city in Egypt backed by orange-coloured sand dunes. It’s a year-round destination with consistent warm weather and endless stunning city views, best enjoyed from a felucca sunset boat ride down the Nile River. Take a river ferry to Elephantine Island, where you immerse yourself with the local culture and lifestyle of the Nubian traditional villages – see almost every building bursting with colours! On another nearby island lies one of the ancient wonders of Egypt, the Philae Temple – a remarkable temple complex dedicated to the goddess Isis. The city is also the gateway to Kom Ombo Temple, the only temple complex in Egypt with a perfectly symmetrical layout!

Ride a hot air balloon over Luxor

One of the best ways to see the sights and scenery of Luxor in all its glory is from high above on board a hot-air balloon – with the golden daylight casting its natural glow across the horizon! Luxor was formerly called Thebes – the classical capital of ancient Egypt – now transformed into an open-air living museum that breathes history and old-world vibe at every corner. Get the chance to enjoy a panoramic bird-eye view of the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple and the Nile River beyond up in the skies. Luxor hot air balloon rides usually occur early in the morning, as the sun rises, when the winds are relatively calmer and the skies are clearer.
