Oranjestad is the capital and cruise port for Aruba — a quaint city dotted with pastel-coloured Dutch colonial architecture and swaying palm trees. Eagle Beach, located in the capital, is one of the world’s best beaches and is known for its low-rise hotels and undisturbed tranquillity. One of the most iconic attractions in the island is the California Lighthouse — an remarkable landmark standing out against the barren, commanding panoramic views of the island and the turquoise seas beyond. Aruba Cruise Highlights

Butterfly Farm

Set just steps away from the famous Palm Beach, Butterfly Farm is a natural sanctuary for one of the world’s most beautiful creatures. Be in awe of the burst of colours as butterflies nest on the flowers or spread their bright-coloured wings as they begin their flight. You can also witness their fascinating life cycle in action! Additionally, the tour guides host entertaining commentaries on butterfly routines and the miracle of metamorphosis — so visiting this tropical garden is a memory that lingers even after you leave the place!

California Lighthouse

The California Lighthouse is a striking structure that has stood guard over the island throughout the millennia. Thanks to its strategic location perched on the cliffs, you can catch sight of the sweeping sand dunes from the top of the lighthouse, as well as Aruba’s stunning landscapes and picturesque cityscapes. Climb the 119-step winding staircase to the viewing deck above, where you’ll be rewarded by breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and the romantic sunsets dipping into the blue seas!

National Archaeological Museum Aruba

History buffs and culture vultures will be captivated with a tour of the National Archaeological Museum, which preserves and showcases over 10,000 archaeological artefacts dating back to 5,000 years of indigenous Amerindian history. The museum is located in downtown Oranjestad and housed in a historic Ecury complex transformed from a family mansion into a modern museum. Entrance is free for the general public, so be sure to drop by for a truly  immersive and educational experience!

Things to Do In Aruba

Laze the day by the beaches

Aruba’s crowning glory is definitely its long stretch of golden sands bathed in warm sunshine, so why not go on an idyllic beach-hopping adventure whilst here? Some of the most sought-after beaches in the island are Eagle Beach and Palm Beach, where most of the action in Aruba happens. Meanwhile, Baby Beach is a great alternative for those who wish to escape the crowds. For wildlife viewing, spot a flamboyance of pink flamingos prancing around the shoreline of Flamingo Beach, close to Oranjestad!

Take a scenic drive across the island

One of the best ways to see Aruba in all its glory is through a thrilling drive. Navigate the island off-road, passing by some scenic trails with rugged terrains and spectacular views. Traverse some of Aruba’s off-grid locations, such as the secret beaches, natural lagoons and Alto Vista Chapel. Whether you’re on for a quick sightseeing adventure or a full-day escapade, touring on wheels promises a one-of-a-kind experience you’ll treasure for a lifetime!

Hike ‘The Haystack’

Hooiberg is a conical hill in Oranjestad, looming over the horizon like an omnipresent postcard wherever you are in the island. Its name translates to ‘haystack’ in Dutch, soaring at a height of over 500 feet. It’s the only mountain on the island with a built-in stone stairway, making it an easy hike of nearly 600 steps to the peak. As soon as you reach the top, you can soak up the 360-degree views of the island below and the Caribbean sea beyond, with partial sightings of nearby Venezuela.

Aruba Cruises FAQs

When is the best time to visit Aruba?

With its tropical climate and year-round sunshine, there’s no such thing as bad timing when it comes to visiting Aruba. However, the most ideal time for the best weather and lower prices are between April and August. June and July are the windiest time of the year, so you can enjoy the cool breeze as you laze on the shores. Aruba also makes a prime destination for a winter sun cruise.

How to get around Oranjestad?

Getting around Aruba’s capital, Oranjestad, is made hassle-free by the various public and private transportation mode options that you can use. Taxis and local buses operate from day to night. Car rentals are also available for a more convenient way of exploring the island. If you’re looking for an affordable and unique way, free open-air trolleys run in a loop from the cruise port to the downtown area. The streets in the city centre are also walkable, so pedestrians can stroll around on foot conveniently.

Which currency is used in Aruba?

The Aruban Florin is the national currency of Aruba, but US Dollars are also widely accepted in many establishments. ATMs are also available in major areas. Credit card payments are accepted in hotels and restaurants too.

Is there a tipping culture in Aruba?

Tipping in Aruba is not customary, but it’s your choice to do so if you find the service excellent.
