Panama Cruises

Discover the Panama Canal & beyond

Panama is a world-renowned transit country on the isthmus linking Central America and South America. It’s known for the impressive engineering wonder, Panama Canal, which cuts through its centre and connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Beyond its famous waterway, Panama cruises offer a chance to enjoy the country’s rich biodiversity, pristine islands and beaches, colonial architecture and more.

Set sail for Panama City, the capital of Panama and the gateway to the World’s greatest shortcut. Beside the Panama Canal's Atlantic entrance is the quaint city of Colon, the best place to catch remarkable views over the canal’s Atlantic locks and Gatún Lake. The stunning San Blas archipelago is located off the coast of the Caribbean, home to around 365 islands and cays – offering endless sunshine and tropical beaches! Bocas del Toro beckons nature enthusiasts with its densely forested islands, sun-drenched beaches and the country’s oldest marine park. Explore all these wonders and more on an incredible Panama cruise!

Things to Do in Panama

Traverse the Panama Canal

A transit through the 40-mile-long Panama Canal is truly a bucket-list-worthy adventure! This artificial waterway is one of the world’s most magnificent routes, which links the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean and has transformed travel and the transportation of goods worldwide. The locks give the ships an exhilarating lift up before gently lowering it down – an extraordinary experience that you’ll only get in Panama Canal cruises. Whether you’re traversing the entire length of the Panama Canal, taking the halfway route with partial transits, or simply calling by ports near the iconic canal – there’s plenty of ways to experience this man-made marvel!

Wander Casco Viejo

Casco Antiguo, also referred to as Casco Viejo or San Felipe, is an old quarter in Panama City– complete with vibrant plazas and narrow cobblestone streets with restored pastel buildings, trendy bars and centuries-old churches! UNESCO recognised Casco Antiguo, along with Panama Viejo, as a World Heritage Site in 1977. Don’t miss the historic sites within the district’s defensive walls, such as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Panama City, oozing a blend of neoclassical, baroque, and Renaissance architectural styles; Church of San Jose, famous for its golden altar; and the striking monument of Las Bóveda along the scenic Panama waterfront!

Experience Colon’s charm

Idyllically situated at the entrance of the Panama Canal, along the Caribbean coast, Colon is the charming capital of Colon Province and a lively cruise port for Panama. From admiring the seaside ruins of Fort San Lorenzo to learning more about Panama's indigenous people, by visiting an ‘Embera’ village and exploring their culture through canoe rides, music and dance – there’s a plethora of things to do in Colon! The Canal Expansion Observation Center is a vantage point for marveling at the canal’s Atlantic locks and the freshwater artificial Gatun Lake. Before you go, why not drop by the Colon 2000 duty-free shopping mall near the cruise pier, where you can do your last-minute souvenir purchases?

Soak up some sun & culture in San Blas Islands

Caribbean sunshine awaits in the breath-taking archipelago of San Blas. Comprising over 350 islands, many of which are inhabited, San Blas offers a tranquil and laid-back escape away from the fast-paced world. Immerse yourself with the local lifestyle and cultures of the native Guna people – an autonomous, culturally-rich indigenous group upholding their own norms, laws and values with minimal interference from the national government. There’s also plenty of water activities to enjoy on this postcard-perfect paradise – enjoy kite-surfing, snorkeling, sailing and island-hopping. Note, though, scuba diving is not permitted in the area by the Guna people.

Observe incredible wildlife

Panama’s beauty goes beyond the spectacular Panama Canal, rich history and picturesque beaches. The country is also a top destination for wildlife viewing, home to a myriad of national parks, rainforests and marine sanctuaries that play host to diverse animals! Bocas del Toro is home to Panama’s first marine park, Isla Bastimentos National Marine Park, which serves as a nature reserve for mangroves, monkeys, sloths and more. See a howler monkey clinging on a tree, or get up close and personal with Geoffroy's tamarins, the smallest species of monkey in Panama with white fur and a reddish nape!
