This sprawling 2,400-acre island is a shared sanctuary for Holland and Carnival guests as a bucket-list stop for Caribbean and Panama Canal voyages. Only about 50 acres of the island have been developed into an entertainment hub while the rest remain as an preserved wildlife habitat, so expect exotic animal encounters on top of beach relaxation.
The Bahamas boasts an impressive array of diving and snorkelling treasures, from thriving marine life and colourful corals to amazing wrecks and underwater sculptures. Ocean Atlas — the largest single figurative sculpture — is one of the most fascinating sights in the underwater world of Bahamas. This 60 ton, 18-foot-tall statue of a young Bahamian girl is an art by the award-winning sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor. This beautifully landscaped French garden is enclosed in elegant mediaeval cloisters — white marble columns with ornate capitals support an arcade of gothic arches. The Cloister was actually a 14th Century French Monastery brought to the island in the 1960s, now transformed into a green paradise with koi ponds and a gorgeous gazebo. It won’t take you long to explore the gardens, but the views to the sea and over the Nassau Harbour are worth the visit alone.
A local experience awaits at Nassau Straw market — a traditional, open-air market in the capital, where you can shop for a variety of items, from handmade Bahamian crafts to tourist trinkets! A shopper’s haven, watch how vendors turn disposable straws into something creative and useful like woven straw hats, bags, baskets and more. You can also haggle for the prices to get the best rates possible if you have a talent in negotiating. This action-packed market is open everyday from 8 am to 8 pm.
The high season for the Bahamas cruises is from December to April, but there are still some fantastic deals to be found all throughout the year. The temperatures during these months are usually cooler and drier, with lower humidity levels and minimal rainfall.
