Best of Brazil

Amazon Rainforest

Dubbed the “Lungs of the Earth,” the Amazon Forest is the world’s largest tropical rainforest – teeming with lush greenery and wildlife and crisscrossed by thousands of rivers, including its massive namesake river. The expansive rainforest spans nine countries in South America, with Brazil holding the majority of the forest within its borders. The Amazon jungle is recognised as a repository of ecological services for the entire world, producing 70% of Earth’s oxygen. It is home to a rich biodiversity and many of the species still remain undiscovered, as well as several local communities and indigenous tribes, offering an array of experiences from wildlife viewing to cultural immersion.

Iguazu Falls

The mighty Iguazu Falls is the largest waterfall system in the world, set on the border between Argentina and Brazil. Comprising 275 separate cascades, the majestic waterfalls are often compared to the world-famous Niagara Falls in the United States and Canada. Whilst 80% of the waterfalls can be found in Argentina, visiting the remaining 20% in the Brazil side offers a unique experience and perspective. Witness the magnificent plunge of the waters into a 230-foot-tall canyon, creating a magical display of mist and rainbows – the sheer power of the World’s largest broken waterfall is truly a breath-taking spectacle!

Christ the Redeemer

Be in awe of the colossal 98-feet-tall Christ the Redeemer, perched at the summit of Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro. The looming presence of this ever-present statue can be seen almost all throughout the city. The clean white landmark is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone – soaring over the landscape on top of a 26-foot-high pedestal, with both arms wide open, symbolising peace and protection. Whether you want to hike or take a bus/tram to reach the imposing landmark, the panoramic views of the cityscape and the surrounding areas will make the effort worthwhile.

Popular Brazil Cruise Ports

Recife

Nicknamed the "Venice of Brazil," the city features picturesque canals, idyllic islands, and romantic bridges. This vibrant metropolis oozes a wonderful blend of modern vibe and traditional charm. It’s the state capital of the northeastern state of Pernambuco, priding itself on its sense of culture and carnival roots. Experience the Galo da Madrugada, the city’s world-class festival, recognised by the Guiness Book of Records as the world’s biggest street party! If you prefer a slow and leisurely experience, visit Recife’s old town – filled with imposing architecture and lively markets. Or take a day-trip to the nearby Olinda, where you can admire pastel-coloured houses and quaint colonial churches.

Rio De Janeiro

A mix of cultural landmarks and electrifying festivals await in Rio De Janeiro. Formerly the capital of Brazil, the city is steeped with historical heritage that mirrors its glorious colonial past. Art aficionados can explore the Museum of Modern Art, showcasing a permanent collection of contemporary art, and the Museum of Tomorrow, a groundbreaking science museum set inside a state-of-the-art building briefly transports guests into the future. Don’t miss out on experiencing the annual Rio Carnival, a two-day festivity featuring parade floats and samba performances, and is argued to be the world's largest festival!

Salvador

Cultural enthusiasts and history buffs are beckoned to visit the captivating capital of Bahia on Brazil’s east coast, known as one of the Americas’ oldest cities! Affectionately called the ‘capital of happiness,’ Salvador lives up to its name with its shimmering golden light of sunset over the Baía de Todos os Santos, the rhythmic beats that race along the streets, and the Portuguese colonial architecture dotting the city! Pelourinho is the historical heart of the city, stepped with cobbled streets lined with lively bars, Afro-Bahian shops and lively squares – plus some of the parts of legendary musician Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us” music video were filmed here!

Maceio

Maceio is popular for its Caribbean-type beauty and warm weather. Located in the Brazilian state of Alagoas, the capital city can be found below low bluffs on a level strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Norte Lagoon, a shallow body of water extending inward for several miles. The historic centre is a good starting point, complete with pastel-coloured colonial houses, a 19th-century cathedral, and delightful museums. If you’re chasing after the sun, head to Ponta Verde Beach, boasting a palm-fringed promenade, beach kiosks, and a plethora of water sports! Cap off your trip with a shopping galore at Parque Shopping Maceió, where you can buy souvenirs and local goods!
