      History buffs can take a day trip  to the ancient city of Copan – a UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site home to the ruins of a once-thriving Mayan city that rivals the beauty of Chichen Itza in Mexico and Tikal National Park in Guatemala. Situated near the border with Guatemala, Copan Ruinas is one of the best-preserved Mayan sites in Latin America. Taking a tour of the site, you’ll see plenty of intricate carvings on the temples and structures throughout the area. One of the most prominent attractions here is the massive hieroglyphic stairway in the centre, featuring one of the world’s largest inscriptions.
