Puerto Rico Cruises

Discover the Rum Capital of the World

Blessed with beautiful beaches that are drenched by year-round sunshine, Puerto Rico has a plethora of offerings to Eastern Caribbean cruise passengers, from rainforest trails to scorching-hot salsa dancing. The coast is incredible — raw, unspoiled, glittering sands that go on for miles, with lush surroundings covered by tropical rainforests and mountains.

The island’s capital San Juan is clearly influenced by Puerto Rico’s rich melting pot of cultures; European, African and Taino. This city offers an energetic array of festivals, gracious colonial architecture, quaint cobbled treats and food that will tantalise the taste buds. Set on the island's southern coast, Ponce is another stunning port of call — dubbed the “Pearl of the South” for its rich history, topography and architecture. Puerto Rico locals are as welcoming as they are dynamic, and once you’ve sampled the world-class rum you simply won’t want to leave. Relax and experience it all, only on an Eastern Caribbean cruise…

Puerto Rico Cruise Highlights

Old San Juan

The old capital of San Juan offers an eclectic mix of cultures and serves as the island’s historic centre. History buffs can visit the San Juan National Historic Site Castillo, home to the Castillo San Cristóbal and El Morro — which are age-old sister fortifications that used to protect the walled city from land and sea attacks. The cobblestone streets of the historic district are lined with brightly-coloured houses and shaded plazas, alongside hip cocktail bars and Caribbean fusion restaurants.

El Yunque Rain Forest

El Yunque is a tropical rainforest in northeastern Puerto Rico with trails crisscrossed by sparkling rivers and streams, as well as gorgeous waterfalls to leave you in awe! This sprawling nature forest is the only one of its kind in the U.S. National Forest System. The El Portal visitor centre makes an ideal starting point, with an interpretative trail that winds through verdant greenery. Get the opportunity to spot the endangered Puerto Rican parrot! The cascading rainforest falls that plunge into natural pools, such as the La Mina Falls, La Coca Falls, and Juan Diego Falls, offer a refreshing break from the long hike.

Bioluminescent Mosquito Bay

One of the most unmissable experiences when travelling to Puerto Rico is witnessing the spectacular natural phenomenon of the Bioluminescent Mosquito Bay. Travellers can enjoy kayaking the azure waters of Laguna Grande — a bioluminescent bay in San Juan River that emits a blue glow from organisms called dinoflagellates at night, creating a glow-in-the-dark effect when stirred up by the motion of boats. Kayakers traverse the channel passing through a tunnel of mangroves leading to the sparkling lagoon.

Another note-worthy landmark in this port destination is Parque de Bombas — a historic former fire station known to be the first in Puerto Rico. Be sure to drop by the main square as well, welcoming visitors with an iconic fountain, landscaped gardens and colonial architecture.
