The Pitons are among the most prominent geological formations in the world. These lush peaks, blanketed by emereland-coloured vegetation, rise above the island and are ubiquitous even from miles away. Adrenaline junkies can hike up to the summit, where they’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the island and sunsets, but those who aren’t interested in hiking can marvel at the towering peaks from a distance. The quaint fishing village of Soufriere serves as a panoramic vista of the Pitons.
Immerse yourself in nature as you wind through the botanical gardens, bursting with tropical flowers of different hues and a variety of plants. Following the nature trail, you’ll reach the most famous attraction in the site — the Diamond Falls, known for its mineral-rich cascades that sparkle like diamonds and plunge into the waters with ever-changing colours. You can also soak your cares away in the on-site mineral bath and spa to feel relaxed.
Need a nature time-out? Marigot Bay is a pristine natural harbour near Castries. This postcard-perfect bay has been used as a background for several acclaimed Hollywood films, such as Doctor Dolittle and Firepower, thanks to its idyllic Caribbean charm and beauty. This paradise is filled with yachts bobbing on the blue waters, as well as tall swaying palm trees and waterfront restaurants lining the sun-kissed shores. Chartering a sailboat to Marigot Bay is definitely the healing break you need!
A natural mud bath experience awaits in the Sulphur Springs, so get ready to feel renewed after taking a dip into its mineral-rich waters. Before arriving in the geothermal area, you’ll drive into a volcano on a road that traverses the edge of the crater. Cover your body with warm grey mud with medicinal properties that offer remedy for different skin conditions and then wash off in a spring-fed thermal pool or cool off in a nearby waterfall. Note that the volcano emits sulfuric stream, so the odours in the air can be quite uninviting but the experience and therapeutic effects make up for it all!
Dubbed the “stairway to heaven,” exploring the Tet Paul nature trail is the perfect way to reconnect with nature without breaking a major sweat and going after challenging hikes. The trail is easy to navigate and offers spectacular sights along the way, breezing through abundant flora and fauna and eventually leading to the top with uninterrupted views of Soufriere, the Pitons and the surrounding countryside. On a clear day, you’ll even see the nearby islands of St. Vincent and Martinique.
You’ll find everything local in the Castries Market, the island’s largest local food and flea market that’s most lively and active on Saturday mornings. The open-air market is located right across the harbour and the place is full of life and colour. From handcrafts to homegrown produce, the buzzing market has no shortage of it all, so be sure to bring money when you go here. Don’t miss out on sampling some local delicacies like the refreshing coconut, Accra fish cakes and BBQ fresh-caught fish.

Cruise passengers spending a day in Castries can simply walk around from the city centre as the island is pedestrian-friendly and easy to navigate. Privately-operated minibuses and cars are the main modes of transportation here, so you can rent a car or ride the bus to get around the city if you plan to visit places outside the capital. Taxis are also available in the island and chartering a sailboat is common for travellers taking a day trip to Soufriere.
The best currency to use in Saint Lucia is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar. US Dollars and major credit cards are also generally accepted at most establishments.
