Gran Canaria Cruises

Follow the Footsteps of Famous Explorer Columbus

Gran Canaria is the third largest among the Canary Islands, a land of idyllic contrast that takes you from pine-forested and volcanic peaks to breathtaking beaches. Follow the footsteps of a notable explorer and navigator, Christopher Columbus, as you discover this Canary Island gem. On a Gran Canaria cruise, you will visit Las Palmas! A cosmopolitan city that offers bustling shopping markets and a lively atmosphere, it’s situated just minutes away from the stunning coastline.

Located close to the capital is the old town of Teror, one of the most picturesque towns in the Canary Islands – steeped with rich heritage and traditional Canarian architecture. To the south of the island lies the Maspalomas Dunes, an arid coastal nature reserve containing fine desert-like sand dunes. Whilst in Maspalomas, you can also delight in non-stop entertainment in Playa del Ingles or snap a photo with the striking Maspalomas Lighthouse set close to the dunes. Whether you’re up for basking on the sparkling beaches, enjoying shopping galore or just looking to relax and unwind – there is always something for everyone on a Gran Canaria cruise!

Gran Canaria Cruise Highlights

Teror

Teror is a quaint town in Gran Canaria, famed for its patron saint the Virgen del Pino or Virgin of the Pine (a representation of the Virgin Mary). Besides being a renowned pilgrimage site, it’s also nicknamed ‘green town’ for its tranquil atmosphere and lush greenery – even dubbed as Gran Canaria’s green heartland. Wandering the streets of Teror, you’ll see a line of colourful houses adorned with 15th-century wooden balconies and several historical monuments. This town is close to Las Palmas, so it’s perfect for a quick day trip if you want to avoid the crowds in the main port town!

Nublo Rural Park

Nublo Rural Park is home to the Roque Nublo, a proud peak that graces the skyline of the islands when the skies are clear. The sprawling park is the largest natural area in Gran Canaria, featuring small urban settlements and a thriving flora and fauna. Several hiking trails are available to reach the peak’s panoramic viewpoints, picnic sites, campsites and charming local villages – all are just an easy and accessible trek! From the vistas, you can admire the spectacular views of the island and the ocean beyond.

Maspalomas Dunes

The resort town of Maspalomas is known for its rolling sand dunes – the Maspalomas Dunes. The Atlantic Ocean, along with the windswept coastlines, is responsible for the creation of the magnificent landscape. Constantly moulded and formed by the winds, this area changes its appearance every day, so no two visits will ever be the same! Walking over the dunes is a bucket-list worthy experience, and the peaks of the dunes make an excellent place for sunset-watching and sandboarding too!

Things To Do in Gran Canaria

Explore the vibrant capital, Las Palmas

The vibrant capital of Gran Canaria boasts eclectic offerings for every kind of traveller. Soak up the island’s history with a stroll through the heart of the capital city’s magnificent historic quarter, Plaza de Santa Ana, complete with a visit to Santa Ana Cathedral and El Museo Canario. Beach enthusiasts can spend a day in the sun at Playa de Las Canteras, the capital’s primary urban beach. Be sure to enjoy a shopping spree in the main shopping artery, Calle Mayor de Triana – a pedestrian-only boulevard dotted with stores selling local souvenirs before you board your ship!

Hike the Bandama Caldera

Hike the Bandama Caldera, an epic scale volcanic crater with awesome views at 1,867-feet above sea. Fancy a thrill? Adrenaline junkies can even hike down to explore inside the tree-covered crater, over 1000-feet deep! It’s just a short distance away from Las Palmas and is worth the visit for those who love adventures. The hike can be quite challenging but you’ll be rewarded with impressive views of the capital surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean once you’re on top. And on clear days when the clouds lift up, the neighbouring Fuerteventura is also visible!

Visit the “Little Venice” of Gran Canaria

Puerto de Mogan is a tiny fishing village with a lovely marina and a peaceful beach. A host of scenic bijou bridges and sea water inlets characterise the town, hence gaining its nickname of  “Little Venice.” Take a romantic stroll across the bridges and through the labyrinth of narrow paths, accompanied by sounds of jazz music often played on the marina. Sauntering around the town, you’ll catch sight of the charming white-washed houses and the colourful landscaped gardens adorning the pedestrianised streets.
