Danube River Cruises

Discover the Dreamy Danube

Spanning over 2,800 kilometres, the Danube River is the second-longest river in Europe. The legendary river either touches or flows through 10 European countries: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine and Romania – before it officially ends in the Black Sea.

A Danube River cruise whisks you on a captivating journey to some of the most enchanting locations in Central and Southern Europe, allowing you to discover the rich cultures, classic architecture and natural beauty of the cities basking on the shores of the romantic Danube. Get the chance to explore the four iconic European capitals – Budapest, Hungary; Vienna, Austria, Bratislava, Slovakia; and Belgrade, Serbia – each with a unique charm and history!

Cruising the Danube river also offers an unmissable opportunity to immerse yourself in Europe’s diverse cultures and landscapes beyond the capitals, with stops to other quaint cities and charming villages like Passau and Vilshofen in Germany, Dürnstein and Linz in Austria – plus a chance to sail along the stunning gorge of Iron Gates!

Popular Ports

The culturally-rich itineraries of Danube River cruises will take you on an unforgettable voyage to popular ports in Hungary, Viena and more…

Budapest, Hungary

At the crossroads of ancient architecture and buzzing nightlife lie Budapest – Hungary’s lively capital split into two sections by the Danube River. The 19th-century Chain Bridge connects the two contrasting areas – with the hilly Buda being the historic, tranquil and culturally-rich side, whilst the flat Pest echoes a relatively bustling, urban and action-packed atmosphere!  In Buda, you can take a tour of the UNESCO-listed Castle District, be in awe of the fairytale-like setting of Fisherman’s Bastion, and marvel at the breath-taking views over Danube and the nearby Matthias Church. And Pest is where you’ll get the chance to admire the colossal Hungarian Parliament Building, Heroes’ Square and the moving ‘Shoes on Danube Bank’ memorial.

Vienna, Austria

The sound of music fills the air of the City of Waltz! Vienna is Austria’s capital, steeped with musical and artistic legacy shaped by renowned names like Mozart, Beethoven and Sigmund Freud. With the capital’s easy-going character, you’ll easily be enticed to do things at a leisurely pace. Wander around the city on foot or wheels, where you’ll run past must-see sights, such as the Opera House, the former Imperial Palace of the Habsburgs and the Belvedere Palace. Or, why not take a stroll around MuseumsQuartier district, where you can appreciate Egon Schiele’s artworks, sit in a cosy cafe, or simply enjoy the panoramic views of the city centre from a rooftop terrace?

Bratislava, Slovakia

Follow the royal route of coronation processions in Bratislava – Slovakia’s regal capital, which earned a title as the ‘Coronation City of Kings’ as it served as the coronation setting for several Hungarian kings and queens between 1563 and 1830. Perched atop a hill, the Bratislava Castle offers panoramic views of the 18th-century Old Town and the Danube River. Take the opportunity to savour Europe’s flavours by joining a ‘Taste of Slovakia’ event, where you’ll be introduced to local Slovak delicacies and drinks, combined with a guided tour of the city’s most fascinating landmarks!

Linz, Austria

Another Austria charmer is the city of Linz, which straddles the Danube River between Salzburg and Vienna. This lovely city can be experienced in many different ways! It’s the river cruise gateway to nearby Salzburg, where you can explore the UNESCO-listed Mirabell Palace and Gardens, the stately Residenz Square and the Old Market in its historic centre. On the way to Salzburg, stop at Mondsee, home to the Basilica St. Michael – where the famous wedding scene of ‘Sound Music’ was filmed!  For a more laid-back experience, you can opt to stay in Linz for a brief city tour on foot. Alternatively, you can step back in time as you stroll around the old city centre of Linz and visit the Mozart House.

Vilshofen, Germany

Vilshofen is a serene Bavarian town, complete with a stunning abbey and a captivating downtown. Dubbed the ‘Three River City,’ where the romantic Danube meets the Inn and Ilz Rivers – Passau is the lovely gateway to Vilshofen, known for its Italian Baroque and Gothic architecture. The small town of Vilshofen is perfect for leisurely walks, offering a glimpse into the authentic way of life and culture in the small villages along the Danube River. With Amawaterways, you’ll be treated to an exclusive Oktoberfest celebration with the local community, where you can sample complimentary Pilsner beer or wine and fresh-baked pretzels.
