The most ideal time to take a cruise to Greece depends on the experiences and the destinations you’re after. Generally, the Greek cruise season runs from late April through October, with shoulder seasons being April and October. Spring and autumn are the prime seasons to travel to Greece for pleasant weather conditions without the excessive summer crowds.

Most of the mainstream cruise lines have itineraries that include the Greek islands, with full days and overnight in ports like Santorini, Mykonos and Crete. These operators are Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises and MSC Cruises. Luxury lines, such as Azamara, SeaDream, Seabourn and Silversea, also offer sailings to Greece.

Greece has a Mediterranean climate, with four seasons, and generally warm weather throughout the year. The most pleasant temperatures can be experienced in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). 

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, particularly in areas that tourists usually visit. However, it’s best to carry cash as many street vendors and small businesses only accept cash. ATMs are available in airports and major cities, so you can withdraw physical money conveniently.

Tipping is not a requirement nor is it a customary practice in Greece, although it’s greatly appreciated if given willingly. Throughout the years of tourism, it’s become expected for tourists to leave a small tip as a gesture of appreciation especially when the service is excellent. Note that cash in euro is the preferred method of tipping, and 10-15 percent is the standard tipping range.
