Discover The Nature Island of the Caribbean

Nicknamed as “The Nature Island of the Caribbean,” Dominica is a mountainous Caribbean island nation boasting an abundance of natural hot springs, tropical rainforests and rushing waterfalls. You’ll surely be in awe of the island’s stunning cascades; it’s believed that there are 365 of them scattered throughout — with a variety of waterfall hikes for all levels and majestic sites to explore! If you need a little break from the Caribbean beaches and party atmosphere, set sail to Dominica and be captivated by its verdant scenery and thriving flora and fauna…

On an exciting Caribbean cruise to Dominica, you’ll arrive at Roseau — the island’s electric capital and main port, known for its 18th-century Creole architecture and infectious Reggae rhythms. The bustling cobblestone Old Market in downtown Roseau is one of the centres of action in the capital. Next to the market is the Dominica Museum, where you can absorb the country’s cultural and natural heritage. A day trip to Dominica’s most dramatic landscape, Morne Trois Pitons National Park, is one of the best ways to experience the island’s unspoiled nature. This UNESCO-recognised tropical forest is home to the volcanically heated, steam-covered Boiling Lake — the world's second-largest hot spring, and it’s also where some of the country’s most gorgeous waterfalls can be found, such as the Trafalgar Falls and Middleham Falls.

Dominica Cruise Highlights

Boiling Lake

Boiling Lake is one of the main attractions in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park. You’ll have to take the Boiling Lake Trail, Dominica’s signature hiking adventure, to reach this bubbling, faint green-coloured natural pool. Geologists argue that this boiling lake, the world’s second-largest hot spring, is a flooded fumarole — an opening in the Earth's surface that emits steam and volcanic gases. The temperature of the broiling waters ranges between 82-92 degrees celsius, making it a perfect setting for a relaxing dip!

Trafalgar Falls

Set in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, Trafalgar Falls are two jaw-dropping waterfalls lying at the end of a short and easy 10-15 minute hike through a lush forest filled with ginger plants and vanilla orchids. These twin falls are colloquially called the “Mother and Father” as they plunge into the slippery boulders side by side, providing a dramatic sight as soon as you arrive at the viewing platform. After the trek and sightseeing, you can soak your cares away on the hot springs of the falls.

Kalinago Territory

Dominica is home to the largest remaining tribe of Kalinago people. Culture enthusiasts can take a side trip to Kalinago Barana Autê, a representation of the pre-Colombian village, to get an insight of the interesting cultures and lifestyle of the locals. The model village comprises a cluster of traditional wooden houses surrounded by banana and breadfruit trees. A tour of the village will allow you to watch the Carib Indians skillfully weaving baskets, carving canoes and sharing their knowledge about medicinal plants.

Things to Do in Dominica

Snorkel at Champagne Reef

An amazing underwater world awaits divers and snorkelers alike at Champagne Reef. Champagne Beach draws many tourists, mainly because it’s the gateway of the Champagne Reef — a premier snorkelling and diving spot filled with abandoned shipwrecks, colourful corals and teeming marine life. The site’s incredibly warm water  caused by the geothermal activity on the ocean floor is also one of its major appeals!

Stroll around Roseau

The capital of Dominica is a colourful jumble of West Indian cottages, cobblestone markets and delightful museums. Roseau exudes a local and chill atmosphere compared to the upscale vibe in the other Caribbean capitals. Near the dock, you’ll find the Old Market — dating to some 300 years ago, the market plaza has a variety of items and produce, from fresh fruits to authentic handicrafts. Get a quick insight of the island’s history in the Dominica Museum and stroll around Dominica Botanic Garden for fresh air.

Lounge on the beaches of Dominica

Although most travellers visit Dominica primarily for its pristine nature and hiking adventures, there’s still a stunning stretch of shores of crystal-clear waters for beach bums to bask in! Apart from the tourist-famous Champagne Beach and Batibou Beach, another beautiful stretch of coast to visit is Mero Beach — boasting a unique grey volcanic sand with restaurants and funky bamboo sacks dotting the shoreline. Meanwhile, the Secret Beach is perfect for those seeking tranquillity, a hidden Portsmouth gem away from the crowds.
